Learn German with Apps and online links

Apps can be an extremely helpful and motivation addition to your German classes. They are great for memorizing vocabulary and can even help you with grammatical issues like cases or the conjugation of verbs.

Additionally to apps, many publishers of German language books offer interactive versions of their books and online trainings for the grammar and vocabulary taught in the books.

We have gathered a list of useful apps and websites for you in order to make your German learning more effective and fun. Here’s our best of!

APPS

  • Many of our students are enthusiastic about AnkiApp: This free app lets you create your own flashcards or download pre-made ones
  • Memrise turns learning vocabulary into game—the irresistible kind that anyone can pick up and play. It teaches you everyday words and phrases and reinforces them with fun quizzes and playful images
  • Quizlet allows you to search study sets or create your own ones. The sets can either be used as regular flash cards or for vocabulary games.
  • Duolingo helps you with improving your vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation through interactive games.
  • Also, make sure to check out Easy Deutsch YouTube videos to see German grammar used in context – definitely worth trying out!

INTERACTIVE BOOKS & ONLINE TRAININGS

    • Hueber is the most successful publisher for German books in Germany. As an addition to their publication „Momente”, which we also use in our school, Hueber offers digital versions of the course and exercise books. Here you will all audio files from the book, exercises for individual revision of the course content, explanatory clips on pronunciation with coordinated interactive exercises and much more.
    • The same applies to another publication we are working with in our school: „Vielfalt“. It includes animated grammar video clips which are ideal for individual learning at home.
    • „sicher aktuell“ is another successful Hueber publication. Under the following link you find online trainings for higher levels, starting from B1. We highly recommend these exercises.
    • The web telenovela „Nico’s Way“ created by DW Deutsche Welle was designed specifically for German learners, each episode comes with grammar and vocabulary trainings for different levels. As cheesy as a telenovela can be, but highly recommended!
