Recap: Visiting „Tränenpalast“ with Mechi

Last Friday, our students went on a little Berlin adventure! 🇩🇪

First stop: the Tränenpalast (“Palace of Tears”) at Friedrichstraße — the former border crossing hall where East and West Germans often said goodbye in tears. Today, it’s a fascinating museum about Berlin’s history, the Wall, and the experiences of those affected by the division of the city. Visitors can explore the old control and passport offices, learn about the role of the Stasi, and gain a deeper understanding of Berlin during the Cold War.

After the museum, the group headed to the famous Ständige Vertretung for a few drinks and some well-deserved relaxation. This iconic Berlin pub is known for its political and cultural atmosphere and offers a cozy spot to unwind while enjoying a taste of local tradition.

Usually, we take our students to art exhibits or gallery visits, but this time we were happy to show them the Tränenpalast — a great way for students who already live in Berlin to discover more of the city’s rich history.

We’d like to thank all our students for joining us on this adventure — we had a wonderful time together and can’t wait to see you at our next cultural event!
