Performing and Learning German at Transmitter

What do a starving polar bear, a family-friendly fish, a ruthless billionaire, concerned patients, passionate lawyers and a group of curious pupils have in common? At Transmitter, you could experience them all on Friday afternoons in the course ‘Performing and Learning German’, which Francesco ran as part of his PhD project.

A highly motivated group of 12 German learners at B1 level tackled both grammar and communication aspects, as well as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (the major challenges of our time). Each group created an original performance based on the chosen goals (like ‘Life below water’ and ‘Good health and well-being’). Week after week, we trained our voices and bodies, got to know and prepared our roles, rehearsed scenes several times, performed them in class and reflected together on this learning experience.

Besides learning new words and phrases, we discussed very specific problems facing our world and staged them artistically. When the topics in class are grounded in reality and learners are given the freedom to let their imaginations run wild, learning German becomes easier and more motivating!

A huge „thank you“ to the course participants for their fantastic commitment, and to Transmitter for this unique opportunity to teach and learn German through performance!
