Who are we?

TRANSMITTER is a young, creative language school located in the heart of Bergmannkiez.

Transmitter is a young, creative language school located in the heart of Bergmannkiez.

We are a team of highly qualified and dedicated German teachers who find their passion in sharing their knowledge and language in a personal setting in which students feel encouraged to engage, interact and get the support they need to learn the language.

All of our teachers are native speakers with a specialised degree in teaching German as a foreign language. We all have an academic background, as well as years of experience in teaching students from all over the world with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Besides our German courses, we also offer exhibitions, guided museum tours, events such as our Language Evening and some other community-based activities.

What do
we offer?

We offer German courses for beginners (A1) to professionals (C1) in a variety of course formats.

Our course formats range from intensive courses, evening courses and weekend classes, as well as individual lessons and courses for companies. In addition to our regular program, we also offer special courses such as our grammar course and conversation class to practise your speaking skills.

All of our language courses meet the current CEF standards (Common European Framework for Language Learning and Language Teaching) and cover all competences from speaking, listening, writing as well as grammar. No matter if you’d like to study the language for yourself or would like to take exams, the classes at Transmitter will definitely provide you with all necessary skills.

Our language courses are communicative, interactive and a lot of fun. It is very important to us to give you the opportunity to develop your speaking skills with us. That’s why our classes are designed to focus on spoken language. Read more about our teaching methods and classes here.

If you would like to find out more about our German courses, please send us an e-mail to: hello@transmitter-berlin.de. Of course, you can also just drop by and talk to us in person. We would be happy to arrange an appointment with you by e-mail.

What do
we stand for?

Transmitter is a safe space. 🌈

At Transmitter, there is no tolerance for racism, homophobia or any kind of discrimination. Many of our teachers identify as queer and/or belonging to subculture or minority groups and wish that this should be respected. Also, kindly note that many of our students – whatever race, gender or identity they might be – have found refuge in our place, considering our space a safe environment where they can be who they are and express themselves freely.

For us, it is important that Transmitter is an inclusive place where people feel safe and supported.

We reserve the right to decline registration requests or to cancel registrations if our policy is being violated.

What our students say about us:

”I have done three courses with Transmitter and I couldn’t be happier. The combination of classes with a lot of group conversations (and fun games), create the right atmosphere to learn German in enjoyable and interesting way. Their teachers are friendly and always happy to help. I recommend this school to all my friends. - Bianca A. (2023)”

”Truly the best language school, with smart and caring instructors. I've taken a diverse array of classes: online and in-person, beginner and middle-advanced, with five different teachers. With TRANSMITTER I'm always excited to go to school. I am so thankful to them for helping me improve my German. Will always enthusiastically recommend. - Dana M. (2023)”

”I took a 4 weeks intensive German class with Transmitter and loved it! My fellow classmates were really nice and eager to learn, Vu our teacher is great, very patient and friendly. The class really helped me improve my skills and feel more confident in speaking so I decided to extend for another 4 weeks. I’d highly recommend this school as the price and quality are really good! - Anais C. (2023)”

”Best language school in town. Katja is a great teacher and will help you with any question you may have. The school atmosphere is very nice, lots of great encounters there. I 100% recommend :) - Penélope de M. (2023)”

”This is a great and welcoming place to study! Small classes allow a more personalized experience and the teachers are so kind and invested. This school was recommended by an expat friend of mine who recently moved to Berlin and I will continue to pass along the recommendation! I plan to take as many courses as I can here, they're wonderful. - Taylor U. (2023)”

”A really lovey place to learn German. The teachers are truly amazing, the classes are super nice, cosy and modern. I have made lots of new friends along the way too which is amazing. I’ve recommended this place to so many people, it’s such a wonderful school and I’m so happy to be part of the class. Learning German has always been absolutely awful for me, (...) until I joined this school. I look forward to the class every morning. Thank you so much! 🙏🏼🥹 - Sorcha H. (2023)”

”Absolutely the best course in Berlin. I’ve tried some before, but they are all extremely boring, only following the book and not really interested in trying anything new to help with the learning process. Transmitter cares about making thorough reviews of the content, every class there’s a bit of a review of what we have learned. This is extremely important to help fixating the content. Besides, it’s always very dynamic and you don’t get tired of the subject. There are games and activities developed specially for every content. Another great thing is that every teacher there is incredibly good. - Manoela (2023)”

”I have done two courses at Transmitter now and I have always found the teachers to be encouraging and enthusiastic and thorough. You will also meet some great people when you attend a class at Transmitter. I can't recommend this school highly enough! - Alan M. (2023) ”

Gallery visit with Katja

Our last gallery visit took us to Urban Nation, a very inspiring art space dedicated to street art and contemporary urban culture. Our group went on a rally through the whole space which expands over two floors, to discuss and discover the history and aesthetics of Berlin street art.

LANGUAGE TANDEMS

There are many platforms which offer language exchange in Berlin, but a lot of them are more interested in selling their commercial services than actually connecting people. We’d like to help you find your way through the jungle of organizations and companies – so here’s our list for anyone who’s looking for a tandem partner or for language exchange events to improve their speaking skills.
