Meet Laura!

Hi guys!
As you may have already noticed from October on we are happy to introduce a new team member: Laura. She will be happy to help you with any questions. We recently sat together with our newest member to get to know her better.
Transmitter: Laura, tell us a little bit more about yourself!
Laura: I’m 28 years old, I come from Hamburg and am living in Marzahn in a Plattenbau with a beautiful big garden.
Transmitter: You are currently finishing your degree in German as a Foreign Language. What made you pick such a specialized degree?
Laura: Living in Bordeaux (between Bachelors and Masters degree) brought to light my interest in languages, language acquisition, sociolinguistic and teaching, rather than becoming a highschool teacher.
Transmitter: Since you’ve been spending the last few years at university, what are you expecting from your work at Transmitter?
Laura: After a long period of online studies, due to the pandemic, I’m looking very much forward to little things, such as working in a team, daily interactions with students and co-workers and looking actively behind the scenes of a language school in the heart of Kreuzberg.
Transmitter: According to your experiences as a teacher and a professional, what would you consider the biggest challenge when learning German?
Laura: The German language has so rich and precise expressions in various forms of word formation options and the syntax is variable within its rules, that makes German so beautiful and poetic but at the same time it requires an awareness and a high feel for language which can only be achieved over time. Another classic challenge are the four cases: Truly understanding and mastering them needs grammatical knowledge of the relations of parts of a sentence in order to comprehend their purpose.
Transmitter: Thanks for your input! On a more personal level, tell us a little bit more about the things you do in your spare time? Do you have any particular hobbies?
Laura: I like to go to the gym, where I train with a TRX tape. I also love to cook and try out new recipes or work in my garden. Besides that, I enjoy reading Fantasy, I’m currently reading the Game of Thrones books, but I also enjoy reading classics, such as Goethe or Brecht and to see performances at the theater.
Transmitter: And what are you looking forward to the most?
Laura: I will submit my master’s thesis in December, so I am looking forward to successfully completing the chapter „Study“ of my life and starting a new chapter. I think starting it at Transmitter is a pretty good start.
Transmitter: Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself to our community, Laura. We’re looking forward to having you in our team!!
